Construction of Plastic Desk Accessories
All our plastic desk accessories are made from a high grade precision-molded, impact resistant ABS Plastic. Carefully molded from durable ABS resin (or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), these desk accessories are not brittle making them easy to break and awkward to handle. Complete with thick neoprene pads on the base of the accessory to protect the work surface and an extra heavy wall thickness of approximately 1/8", these accessories are rugged product that will stand up to years of use. ABS resin is made by copolymerizing (combining two or more monomers) the monomers acrylonitrile and styrene. Acrylonitrile and styrene are dissolved in polybutadiene rubber, which allows these monomers to form chains by attaching to the rubber molecules.
The advantage of using ABS to make our desk accessories consists of combining the strength and rigidity of the acrylonitrile and styrene polymers with the toughness of the polybutadiene rubber. Although the cost of producing ABS is roughly twice the cost of producing polystyrene, ABS is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties. ABS plastic is injection molded to make telephones, helmets, washing machine agitators, and pipe joints. This plastic is thermoformed to make luggage, golf carts, toys, car grills and our own desk accessories.
